PV off-grid systems work by combining wind power and photovoltaic power. Both types of power are first managed through a controller to ensure they are used efficiently. The controller monitors the status of the batteries and stores excess power in the batteries in case it is needed. The inverter is responsible for converting DC power to AC power for AC loads such as household appliances. When there is insufficient wind, sunlight or an increase in load demand, the system releases power from the batteries to supplement the power supply, ensuring stable system operation. A PV off-grid system, also known as an independent PV power system, is a system that operates independently of the public grid. The way it works consists of the following main steps:

Energy harvesting: PV modules (often called solar panels) receive sunlight and convert it into DC electrical energy.
Energy storage: When the PV modules produce more power than the system currently requires, the excess power is stored in a battery (storage battery). The battery is a key part of the off-grid system, providing power when there is no sunlight or when the demand for electricity exceeds the capacity of the PV modules to produce it.
Energy distribution: The power generated by the PV modules is first sent to a controller, which determines the distribution of the power. A portion of the power is sent directly to an inverter, which converts DC power to AC power to supply AC loads (such as household appliances). The other part of the power is sent to the batteries for storage.
Energy management: The controller is also responsible for monitoring the operating status of the system to ensure safe and efficient operation. For example, it prevents the battery from being overcharged or over-discharged to protect the life of the battery.
Load power supply: When the system needs power, the inverter converts the DC power from the battery into AC power to supply the AC load. If the battery power is insufficient, the system switches to a mode where it is powered directly by the PV modules.
The main advantage of an off-grid PV system is that it can provide power in areas not covered by the public grid, reducing dependence on the public grid and lowering energy costs. However, as it is dependent on weather conditions, the ability of the system to supply electricity may be compromised during extended periods without sunlight.
